Riptide Hosting Privacy Policy
Update April 28, 2024 - Applicable only to customers using Riptide Hosting, Inc.'s hosted virtual servers running on VMware technology. Broadcom acquired VMware in November 2023. Beginning May 1, 2024, Broadcom is requiring "end user reporting" where we (Riptide Hosting, Inc.) must provide our end user customer information to Broadcom to continue using VMware licenses. Beginning May 1, 2024, we are providing the following information to Broadcom/VMware and comdivision north america inc (our upstream VMware license provider) on a monthly basis: customer name, customer address, and virtual server specifications such as amount of ram and CPU.
Riptide Hosting's policies and procedures for handling customer information
have been created with the understanding that Internet technologies are still evolving
and that Internet business methods are continuing to evolve to meet the needs and
opportunities of the changing technologies. As a result, Riptide Hosting's policies
and procedures are subject to change.
In the course of serving its customers, Riptide Hosting acquires, stores and transmits
customer communications and information that customers may regard as private or
sensitive. Some of this information — such as the customer's name, address,
telephone number, and credit card data — is provided to Riptide Hosting by its customers
in order to establish service. Other information — such as the customer's account
status, choice of services, and customer logs — is created and maintained by Riptide
Hosting in the normal course of providing service. Riptide Hosting also uses cookies,
which are small pieces of information that a web site can store in a designated
file on a user's computer for various reasons. In addition, Riptide Hosting
may store customers' electronic mail and other communications as a necessary
incident to the transmission and delivery of those communications.
Data Security
Riptide Hosting will protect the confidentiality of its customers' information,
account information and personal communications to the fullest extent possible and
consistent with the law and the legitimate interests of Riptide Hosting, its partners,
its employees and other customers of Riptide Hosting's services. To protect
the loss, misuse, and alteration of information that is collected from customers,
Riptide Hosting has appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures
in place.
How Customer Information is Used
Riptide Hosting may use personally identifiable information collected through our
Web site to contact customers regarding products and services offered by Riptide
Hosting and its trusted affiliates, independent contractors and business partners,
and otherwise to enhance customers' experience with Riptide Hosting and such
affiliates, independent contractors and business partners. Riptide Hosting may also
use information collected through our Web site for research regarding the effectiveness
of the Web site and the marketing, advertising and sales efforts of Riptide Hosting,
its trusted affiliates, independent contractors and business partners.
Opt Out & Modifications
Customers may opt out of receiving notices of new or upgraded products from Riptide
Hosting and Riptide Hosting partners by contacting Riptide Hosting's
Billing Department. However, customers may not opt out of receiving information from Riptide
Hosting that is essential for maintaining or updating customers' accounts or
system information. At any time, customers may access and modify their personal
information by contacting Riptide Hosting's
Billing Department
Disclosure of Customer Information and Communications
Riptide Hosting will not otherwise disclose its customers' personal and account
information unless Riptide Hosting has reason to believe that disclosing such information
is necessary to identify, make contact with, or bring legal action against someone
who may be causing harm or interfering with the rights or property of Riptide Hosting,
Riptide Hosting's customers, or others, or where Riptide Hosting has a good
faith belief that the law requires such disclosure.
Riptide Hosting also will not, except for reasons stated below, disclose to third
parties the contents of any electronic mail or other electronic communications that
Riptide Hosting stores or transmits for its customers. The circumstances under which
Riptide Hosting will disclose such electronic customer communications are when:
- it is necessary in order to provide service to the customer;
- it is necessary to protect the legitimate interests of Riptide Hosting and its customers;
- it is required to cooperate with interception orders, warrants, or other legal process
that Riptide Hosting determines in its sole discretion to be valid and enforceable;
and
- it is necessary to provide to a law enforcement agency when the contents are inadvertently
obtained by Riptide Hosting and appear to pertain to the commission of a crime.
Riptide Hosting disclaims any intention to censor, edit or engage in ongoing review
or surveillance of communications stored on or transmitted through its facilities
by customers or others. Riptide Hosting will, however, review, delete or block access
to communications that may harm Riptide Hosting, its customers or third parties.
The grounds on which Riptide Hosting may take such action include, but are not limited
to, actual or potential violations of Riptide Hosting's
Acceptable Use Policy.
Maintenance of Information
Information about Users that is maintained on our systems is protected using industry
standard security measures. However, we cannot guarantee that the information submitted
to, maintained on, or transmitted from our systems will be completely secure.
Advertising
