{"id":178,"date":"2015-06-05T10:47:58","date_gmt":"2015-06-05T17:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.riptidehosting.com\/blog\/?p=178"},"modified":"2019-10-18T15:33:46","modified_gmt":"2019-10-18T15:33:46","slug":"using-task-scheduler-to-schedule-recurring-automatic-reboot-of-windows-server-2008r2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.RiptideHosting.com\/blog\/using-task-scheduler-to-schedule-recurring-automatic-reboot-of-windows-server-2008r2\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Task Scheduler to schedule recurring automatic reboot of Windows Server 2008R2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Use the steps below to schedule a task which can automatically reboot your Windows 2008 R2 server on a\u00a0recurring basis.\u00a0\u00a0Please beware that\u00a0users that are logged on will be kicked off when the server reboots.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Go to administrative tools, task scheduler.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Then right click on Task Scheduler and select Create Task<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Name the task, possibly something like \u201cReboot Weekly Saturday midnight\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Change settings to run whether user is logged in or not.\u00a0 Change User\/Group and type in SYSTEM.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">On the Triggers tab, select New and fill in your schedule and make sure to check Enabled at bottom of screen<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">On the Actions tab, select New, Start a program, and browse to \u201cc:windowssystem32shutdown.exe\u201d and add \u201c\/r\u201d in the arguments box<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">If users are logged on when the server is about to reboot, it will show a message \u201cyou are about to be logged off, windows will shut down in less than a minute\u201d.\u00a0 It reboots in about 30 seconds from our experience.\u00a0 If you do this, you\u2019ll want to schedule this when users are not in the server so unsaved data is not lost.\u00a0 <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Use the steps below to schedule a task which can automatically reboot your Windows 2008 R2 server on a\u00a0recurring basis.\u00a0\u00a0Please beware that\u00a0users that are logged on will be kicked off when the server reboots.
