Vipre firewall settings to allow RDP remote desktop connection to your virtual server.<\/p>\n

You will need to login to the server via a\u00a0 Console or remote KVM\/IP card to install and configure the firewall.\u00a0 If you install the firewall when you are logged in via a RDP remote desktop connection you will lock yourself out of the server as soon as you activate the firewall.\u00a0 Thus you need to have other access.<\/p>\n

First install the Vipre Internet Security Suite which include their firewall.<\/p>\n

You next need to turn on the Learning Mode function \u201cFrom the console session\u201d .<\/p>\n

Now turn the firewall.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cFrom the console session\u201d.<\/p>\n

Next logon to the server via RDP.\u00a0 \u201cThis is a new session via RDP remote desktop application\u201d<\/p>\n

Go back to your original \u201cConsole Session\u201d and ok the messages asking if you would like to allow the RDP session you are trying to establish.<\/p>\n

****We assume that you could RDP to the server to begin this process.\u00a0 Which means the Windows firewall is off or it is set to allow RDP remote desktop connections.<\/p>\n

****We found that the following instructions but they DID NOT<\/strong> work to allow RDP through the Vipre firewall when we tried it.<\/p>\n

  1. Using the information from the previous section, modify the Apps rule for\u00a0Svchost.exe<\/strong>\u00a0to allow trusted connections both inbound and outbound.<\/li>\n
  2. Make a port exception on the RDP port for this same application (C:WindowsSystem32svchosts.exe<\/strong>). The name can be whatever you choose, but the application must be\u00a0C:WindowsSystem32svchost.exe<\/strong>, the Port Number must be\u00a03389<\/strong>\u00a0(orwhatever you have the RDP port set as<\/strong>), and the Protocol must be\u00a0TCP<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
